About the project:

I built the first version of Alexis’ site in Squarespace’s 7.0 platform in 2020, and because it had been nearly five years, it was time to make some important upgrades, namely moving her into Squarespace’s Fluid Engine platform.

While Squarespace has made it “easy” to upgrade from 7.0 to Fluid Engine by clicking a button, making the transition with a site like Alexis’ required a detailed plan, and here’s why — Alexis is a prolific writer, educator, podcaster, and coach. She has over 400 pages of content on her site. She’s been featured in Oprah Magazine, Fast Company, and ABC News, to name a few. Her Udemy course is uber successful, with nearly 200,000 students. Squarespace’s documentation states there is a page limit for upgrades (and Alexis had exceeded it) so Chris and I knew we’d need to coordinate our efforts with Squarespace’s tech team. Additionally, with everything Alexis has going, it was critical that her site have virtually ZERO downtime.

We built Alexis’ 7.1 site in a demo environment where we stripped out the excess code that was no longer needed from the 7.0 site (Squarespace 7.0 required oodles of CSS and custom code to make it look unique). We freshened up her brand and optimized the new site for improved SEO and a streamlined user experience.

Because Alexis utilizes advanced marketing funnel tactics and client onboarding tools, we took great care to ensure that everything stayed connected and cohesive during the upgrade. On launch day, we migrated the new design within a few hours — her site was not down for a single second. This project required advanced planning and troubleshooting to ensure every detail was tended to and everything went smoothly.

In Alexis’ own words…

"Working with Deana is a DREAM. A few years back, I engaged Deana to upgrade my website from the Squarespace template I'd slapped together myself in the early days of my business. Deana delivered in a major way; I get compliments on my website on the regular. But recently, it was time to make some major structural changes to my website as my business was evolving. Deana was the first and (let's be honest) only person I reached out to because I knew that she would 1) do an amazing job, and 2) be a total pleasure to work with.

Going above and beyond, as she always does, Deana not only upgraded my website yet again, she also suggested and implemented a brand refresh that I'm loving, and getting lots of positive feedback on. Deana is also amazing because she doesn't gatekeep; on many occasions, she's sent me a little Loom video to show me exactly how to update something for myself, so I'm able to make changes to my website with confidence. And she doesn't give up. On this last project, I had an edge-case functionality request and she and her team scoured the documentation and figured out a solution that works great. I wholeheartedly recommend Deana and her team! (Plus, did I mention she's just an absolute joy?; I'm happy every time I see her name in my inbox.)"
